Welcome to DTM2023
september, 2021
Design Theory and Methodology (DTM) integrates creative, analytical, and reflective group assignments with podcasts, readings, and individual exploration to give you the opportunity of developing more nuanced and thoughtful ways of describing designing.
What you won't get in this course is more design methods. This course is more about understanding what it is about the activity of designing that makes design methods useful. So you may have experience of using design methods, or you may not. It doesn't matter.
The thinking you need to develop in this course is something different, more theoretical perhaps, but also more practical and useful. Theory and practice are two sides of the same coin and design methodology is where they connect.
In the 2023 edition of the course we will be building on what we learned in the last couple of years. There will be in-person and online components of lectures and group activity. There will be more discussion, two assignments, and we encourage you to take more responsibility for your learning.
This website presents Podcasts featuring interviews and discussions about design theory and methodology. We have tried to make our selected subjects accessible through the podcasts, but you should follow up with the references mentioned which are available on Brightspace.
